Târgu Mureș -  The 1950s         On March 29, 1957, the first closed-heart surgery for mitral stenosis (a procedure performed without cardiopulmonary bypass and without stopping the heart) took place at the 1st Surgical Clinic in the presence of pioneers in the field, a joint team from Bucharest and Târgu Mureș – Prof. Dr. Nicolae Hortolomei, Prof. Dr. Dan Setlacec, Prof. Dr. Papay Zoltan, and Prof. Maros Tiberiu.
