IPA

IPA – the largest friendship organization for police officers worldwide – was created on January 1, 1950. Since then, its motto “Servo per amikeco” (“Service through friendship” – in Esperanto) has gained more followers in over five decades of existence than anyone could have imagined.

The International Police Association was founded at the initiative of a police officer from Lincolnshire, England, Arthur Troop, who wanted to create a channel for friendship between police officers everywhere and international cooperation. Born on December 15, 1914, he joined the Lincolnshire Police in June 1936, where he specialized in traffic matters.

After the Second World War, Arthur dedicated himself to the project of founding a world organization for police officers, showing great faith in people and the virtues of true friendship.

Between 1948 and 1949, Troop contacted numerous friends in the local police force and abroad. His idea was well received in several European countries (Great Britain, Denmark, Norway, Sweden) and some African states, which encouraged the establishment of a world police organization, composed of national sections and the issuance of membership cards by an International Secretariat.
