It dates back to the year 1220, but the first documentary attestation was made on 02.07.1572, when Voivode Alexandru II gave the village the name Dobrotești. The village's name comes from the Slavic word "dobrotei," which means "many linden trees." The only building considered a historical monument in the Dobrotești commune is the Sfinții Voievozi (Holy Voivodes) church, which dates back to 1753 and was renovated in 1870. This church is known among the village residents as the "old church," ever since the construction of the Sfântul Dumitru (Saint Demetrius) church, also known as the "new church." Other buildings of considerable age include the commune's town hall, which dates from 1935, and the old school located on Șoseaua Mică. The building known as the old school was once the stable of a local boyar and was likely confiscated by the communists and converted into the school known as the Dobrotești Commune Primary School (grades I-IV) until 2008, when it was closed and all students from the Bobocari neighborhood were moved to the Dobrotești Commune School (grades I-VIII) located in the central part of the commune. Doage is the unofficial name of the Dobrotești commune.
