Press release regarding the efficacy of KLINTENSIV products against Coronavirus
The European Standard EN 14885 from 2018 represents the general quality regulatory framework for antiseptic and disinfectant products. EN 14885 defines virucidal activity as the ability of a product or active substance to reduce the number of virus particles.
In order to claim general virucidal activity for a product, testing conditions and methods against viruses are standardized by the same EN 14885. The representative organisms tested are Poliovirus type 1, Adenovirus type 5, and Murine Norovirus.
The European Standard EN 14885 is complemented by the EN 14476 testing protocol, which quantitatively evaluates the virucidal activity of disinfectant products.
Biocidal activity against enveloped viruses is demonstrated using Adenovirus type 5 and Murine Norovirus in the testing protocol, which also includes the Coronavirus family.
European standards are also reflected in the market authorization notices issued by the Ministry of Health through the National Commission for Biocidal Products, which approves or rejects the placement of a disinfectant product on the market.
Consequently, Klintensiv products, disinfectants for skin and surfaces that are virucidally approved under EN 14476, are also effective against Coronavirus.
Furthermore, products currently on the market that claim on their label to have a virucidal action by inactivating only Coronavirus have a limited action compared to Klintensiv products.
