Air conditioning
Summers are getting hotter and hotter, and the air conditioner has become a reliable ally for each of us, whether we use it at the office or at home. Periodic disinfection and cleaning of any air conditioning unit is vital for air quality, but it also contributes to increasing the unit's lifespan. The filters inside the unit are designed to trap dust, but also other pollutants such as pollen and bacteria, and if they are not cleaned regularly, they can clog and collect moisture and even mold. How do we sanitize air conditioning units? We will see below!
Step 1: Cleaning the unit's exterior
- Make sure the air conditioner is turned off;
- Disconnect the power source from the outlet;
- Use a damp cloth to clean the unit's casing;
Warning! Do not clean the unit by spraying water directly on it. Water entering the unit can lead to electric shock or fire, which could cause serious accidents. Do not use chlorine or organic solvents, such as paint thinner, acetone, or alcohol, to clean the unit's surfaces.
Step 2: Cleaning the filter
The filter requires cleaning and disinfection every 6 months, or more often when you notice either an unpleasant odor or that the air is not cool enough. The period between sanitizations may vary depending on usage and environmental conditions.
- Detach the filter from the unit;
- Use a soft brush or a vacuum cleaner to remove any traces of dust or debris from the filter;
- Wash the filter using water and detergent. Let it soak for about 30 minutes;
- After a thorough rinse, let the filter air dry in a well-ventilated area;
- Reinstall the filter in the unit.
Warning: Take care not to damage the filter during cleaning. Do not use a hard brush or other cleaning utensils. Avoid exposing the air filter to direct sunlight when setting it out to dry.
Step 3: Disinfecting the internal components of the unit
- Clean and disinfect the evaporator;
- Using a slightly damp cloth, carefully clean the fan fins;
- Disinfect the condensate tray.
Warning: The water in the condensate tray is dirty and can develop cultures of bacteria and microorganisms. For this reason, it is essential to clean and disinfect it periodically. To clean and disinfect the internal fins of the air conditioner, use ENVIROKLIN™ – Air conditioner disinfectant. With certified virucidal, bactericidal, fungicidal, and sporicidal action, it has a rapid effect and removes debris that blocks airflow. Let the product act for 5 minutes for mid-to-low level disinfection or 60 minutes for high-level disinfection. More details about ENVIROKLIN™ here.
