Germs and viruses are almost everywhere! They can get onto our hands and the objects we touch during daily activities, whether we are at home or out and about. Cleaning your hands, whenever necessary, with soap and water or using disinfectants, is one of the most important steps we can take to avoid getting sick and spreading germs. Skin disinfectant products are chemical or biological substances used for cleaning and sterilizing the skin.
Using skin disinfectants is one of the most fast and efficient methods to protect ourselves against viruses and bacteria, if we apply the disinfectants in a proper manner. The steps to follow for proper hand disinfection are as follows:
- Before applying the disinfectant, your hands must be dry;
- Remove any jewelry or accessories from your hands;
- Apply the product generously to your palm. Approximately 3 ml (one pump);
- Join and rub your hands together;
- Spread the disinfectant over the backs of your hands, between your fingers, and focus on the area around your nails;
- Massage gently for 30-60 seconds until you feel that the disinfectant has evaporated.

Attention! Disinfectants with less than 70% alcohol are not biocidally effective against viruses.
Hand disinfectants containing at least 60% alcohol can be used to remove bacteria in situations where soap and water are not available. Studies have shown that ideally, after every wash with soap and water, a hand disinfectant should also be used.
Disinfectants ready for use on hands and skin with over 70% alcohol have a rapid action against viruses, are convenient and easy to use, especially in situations where soap and water are not available.
Advantages of using disinfectants for hand hygiene:
- they have a rapid action
- they destroy 99.9% of microorganisms on our hands
- they significantly increase the chance of keeping hands clean and aseptic
- they do not dry out the skin and do not leave it sticky
- they reduce the risk of gastrointestinal and respiratory tract diseases, as well as skin infections
