Like most people, you probably spend most of your time at the office, in an enclosed space, interacting constantly with other people. Getting sick at the office, also known as workplace disease transmission, is the phenomenon where employees fall ill while carrying out their activities in an office or other workplace. This can be caused by a variety of factors, including the presence of pathogens in the work environment, a lack of proper hygiene, exposure to sick colleagues or clients, stress, and fatigue.
Below, we present 10 recommendations to limit the possibility of infection with a pathogen:
- Ensure hand hygiene: Whether you wash them with soap and water or use a disinfectant gel, clean hands are the primary way to avoid contamination. A small bottle of hand disinfectant gel used at the office is a great idea.
- Stay hydrated: it is proven that inadequate hydration destabilizes the immune system.
- Avoid colleagues who have a cold or appear sick: use remote communication options.
- Take short breaks throughout the day: a breath of fresh air and a little movement are useful in preventing illness.
- If you have vacation days - use them! Very long work periods without breaks exhaust the body, making it increasingly vulnerable.
- Keep your desk as clean as possible: try to clean your desk at least once a week. We recommend using disinfectant wipes for surfaces.
- Regularly wash your coffee mug or the plate you use: this also applies to other office utensils.
- Use single-use plastic plates or cups.
- If you are already sick, try to stay home for at least 1-2 days. This way, the chances of spreading a virus are lower.
- Take your daily dose of Vitamin C or Omega-3: it is preferable to replace nutritional supplements with regular consumption of fruits, fish, or seeds. These play a very important role in maintaining a healthy immune system.
