Maintaining a safe, clean, and disinfected environment is, perhaps now more than ever, a fundamental element for companies operating in the HoReCa industry. Following the recommendations of the Ministry of Health and the World Health Organization, most accommodation spaces, whether hotel chains or guesthouses, have modified their procedures for cleaning and disinfecting hotel rooms to ensure optimal conditions for tourists. So, what are the steps for effectively disinfecting a hotel room?
First and foremost, the staff responsible for cleaning and disinfecting the hotel room must have access to appropriate personal protective equipment, including gloves and an apron. To reduce risk factors after guests depart and to prepare the room for a new visit, it is necessary to:
- Dispose of all single-use paper products (e.g., tissues, toilet paper, cups).
- Remove all towels, linens, pillows, bedspreads, and blankets. These textile items should not be shaken, but rather washed in accordance with the label instructions.
- Cleaning and thoroughly disinfecting high-touch areas, such as: faucets, door and drawer handles, door latches, sanitary ware, phones, handrails, light switches and lamps, thermostats, remote controls, hair dryers, and any other objects found in the room.
- Periodically, carpets require disinfection through a two-step process. First, they must be cleaned with detergent and hot water. Second, they must be disinfected by applying an appropriate biocide product. If possible, steam refreshing is recommended at the end.
- Disinfection of furniture (chairs, tables, bed frames) will be done using biocide products specially designed for such surfaces.
Ideally, it is recommended to use a nebulizer and products for disinfecting the micro-air flora. These have the role not only of disinfecting all objects in a room but also of purifying the air, eliminating viruses, bacteria, and microorganisms.
What types of disinfectants are recommended for hotels?
Effective disinfection of rooms used daily by guests can only be achieved by using cleaning and disinfection products that meet safety standards imposed by the competent authorities.
For accommodation units, it is recommended to use disinfectant products for hard surfaces (floors, furniture, and other equipment), detergents for textiles (linens, towels), disinfectants for sanitary ware, and disinfectants for the micro-air flora.
It is recommended that the hotel room cleaning and disinfection procedure be accompanied by a series of other measures to prevent the spread of viruses and bacteria, such as:
- Equipping every hotel room with hand and skin disinfectant;
- Equipping bathrooms with soap dispensers with sensors;
- Frequent disinfection of surfaces used by a large number of people (elevators, for example) and common areas.
